The author of the brochure "The Udekh Forest People" had the opportunity to meet the natives, who call themselves Ude (he), at a time when the country had not yet been colonized. These natives inhabit the forests along the right tributaries of the Ussuri River and on the coast of the Sea of ​​Japan across the watershed. In the south, they were greatly influenced by Russians and Chinese, but in the central part of the Sikhote-Alin mountain region, which was difficult to penetrate, the Udekh long preserved their customs and mores.
