PlayStation Portal is no longer “just an accessory”: all about firmware 7.0.0
If you thought the PlayStation Portal was just a secondary screen for the PS5, then the 7.0.0 system update will change your mind. Sony has officially turned the device into a cloud platform in its own right.
Cloud without a middleman: Now, PS Plus Premium subscribers don't need to turn on (or even own) a PS5. Games stream directly from the Sony library to your Portal. This makes the gadget a full-fledged player in the market of portable consoles.
1080p picture: A “High Quality” mode with an increased bitrate has appeared in the quick menu. Images are clearer and smoother, both at home and on the go.
AI magic with PSSR 2.0:PS5 Pro owners will appreciate support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology. It removes compression artifacts and blur from network delays on the fly using neural networks.
Social little things:A full-fledged “Platinum” animation has appeared in trophy notifications, quick entry via QR code and an updated keyboard for search.
Remedy changes course: FBC: Firebreak goes to peace
While Sony is celebrating success, changes are taking place at Remedy Entertainment. Less than a year after the release of co-op shooter FBC: Firebreak, the studio announced that it will no longer release major content updates. The game will remain on sale at a reduced price of $19.99, but all the team’s resources are now being transferred to the development of single-player projects. It looks like the Finns have decided to return to what they do best.
Triumph of newcomers at the GDC Awards 2026
The industry is actively discussing the finalists of the 26th annual Game Developers Choice Awards. The turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 became a real sensation. The new franchise managed to collect 8 nominations at once, including “Game of the Year,” displacing numerous sequels.
PlayStation 3: Livelier
Sony surprised everyone today by releasing update 4.93 for PS3. Almost 20 years after the launch of the console, the company has updated Blu-ray encryption keys and patched up security holes. The Cell architecture is still showing signs of life, proving that the classics have not been forgotten.
What can we expect tomorrow?
Get your PCs and consoles ready - tomorrow we are in for a double whammy. There will be a release of a large-scale action-RPG in the open world of Crimson Desert and the official release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PC. NVIDIA has already jumped in and released “Game Ready” drivers specifically for these new products.
