CD Projekt has officially confirmed the development of the third major add-on for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, called “Ballads of the Past.” The project is being implemented jointly with the Polish studio Fool's Theory, formed by former employees of CD Projekt.
The addition is planned for release in 2027 and will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Owners of previous generation consoles, including the original Nintendo Switch, will not be able to access the content.
The main character of the DLC will again be Geralt of Rivia, which emphasizes the developers' intention to maintain connections with the classic trilogy. The first details about the addition are promised to be revealed this summer.
According to rumors, “Ballads of the Past” can serve as a plot bridge to the fourth part of the series, where Ciri is expected to be the main character.
For Fool's Theory, collaboration with CD Projekt is becoming one of the most significant projects in the history of the studio. In addition to working on DLC, the team is simultaneously working on a remake of the first part of The Witcher using the Unreal Engine 5.
Recall that the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in 2015 and is available on PC, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
The announcement comes amid recent criticism from players of the June PlayStation Plus selection.
