Sit back, we have something to discuss!
The main scandal of the industry: The creators of Subnautica 2 have returned control of the studio
The most discussed topic today is the finale (or the beginning of a new chapter) of the legal war between the authors of Subnautica 2 and their parent company Krafton. A Delaware court issued a decision that literally shocked the industry with its details.
What happened?
It turns out that a real techno-thriller was playing out inside Krafton. The court found that Krafton CEO Changhan Kim usedChatGPTto plot to avoid paying a giant bonus of $250 million. This money was awarded to the developers from Unknown Worlds (the creators of Subnautica) for achieving certain revenue targets and releasing the game into early access.
In order not to pay, Krafton management decided to simply “seize” power in the studio. The judge found that the dismissal of key figures - Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire - was illegal and aimed only at manipulating the negotiations.
Results of the court:
• Ted Gill was immediately reinstatedas CEO with full powers.
• The right to solely decide when Subnautica will be released was returned to him 2.
• The game's Steam page, which Krafton blocked to put pressure on the developers, should be restored.
• The deadline for receiving that same $250 million bonus has been extended until September 2026to compensate the studio for the time lost due to the courts.
